The Handii
The left hand that strikes. The eye that sees for the priest.
✠
The Handii — pronounced hand-eye — are an order older than the present age of the Basilica. Their name names their office: they are the left hand and the eyes of the Hidden Priest they are bound to. Where the priest cannot reach, the Handii's hand reaches. What the priest cannot see, the Handii's eye witnesses.
A Handii is not a knight. He is not a priest. He is the extension of another's vow — sworn to act and to see in the priest's stead, and to bring back what he has done and what he has watched without ornament or excuse.
Where a Handii stands, an older claim is being kept. Most who meet one do not know they have.
“He marked the hand. He kept the eye open.”
