Redemption
Not rescue. Reception.
✠
In the theology of the Basilica, redemption is sharply distinguished from rescue. Rescue removes the soul from the consequence. Redemption receives the soul through the consequence and keeps it on the other side.
It is the doctrine that gives the Chronicles its weight. The wound is not undone. The grief is not forgotten. What is given is the saving fact of being received with the wound still bleeding — a sight that becomes itself the healing.
“Let my sight be the wound that heals.”
