They consecrate what cannot be returned.

The Sanctifiers are the consecrating arm of the Basilica. Where ground has been broken, where a relic has been touched by what should not have touched it, where a chapel's light has gone out and not returned, the Sanctifiers are sent.
Their work is not exorcism. It is restoration of right order. They do not always succeed. When they do not, the ground in question is sealed by the Undercroft and the Basilica adds another name to the long list of places no longer safe to enter.
