The Litany of the Long Defeat is a liturgical fragment preserved in the vaults beneath the Basilica. It was composed during an age when the faithful believed Heaven had fallen silent, and many despaired.
The Litany answers that despair with its central refrain: silence is not abandonment. The bell does not cease merely because the valley no longer listens. The Most High does not answer on demand. He speaks in the patience of what endures.
